If you're contemplating the purchase of a digital camera or would like to interact with fellow digicam owners, here's where to go: ONLINE PHOTO PROCESSING & PHOTO GIFTS:
I was happy with my Epson photo printer, but online digital photo printing services rendered it obsolete --- you can get awesome professional-quality prints in matte or glossy finishes with no hassle. Here are some of the best:
  • PICTOPIA: The best there is for supersized and custom-sized prints. Got a 90" X 6" panoramic photo to print? No problem! Pictopia prints on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, which produces prints with the highest longevity available, and superb print quality.
  • SHUTTERFLY: Less expensive than Pictopia, but also offers prints on FCA paper. In addition to prints, Shutterfly offers excellent quality cards, calendars, snapbooks, mugs, mousepads, and other products ... as well as services like photo sharing.
  • KODAK PERFECT TOUCH PROCESSING: Just get back from vacation and need a bunch of prints? Kodak is the place for affordable, high-quality prints. They also offer a somewhat different assortment of photo gifts from Shutterfly, including travel mugs and playing cards. Like Shutterfly, Kodak offers a calendar that starts on any month you select, but they go an extra step and offer a series of background designs as well to kick it up a notch.
  • CAFEPRESS: Not a photo printing/processing service, but they offer over 80 different photo gifts. They do a good job with mugs, calendars (with full bleed, but it's a JAN-DEC calendar year), photo stamps (these are awesome!) and their core business, T-Shirts. Although they offer framed prints, the quality is only adequate (it appears that the color gamut is limited, and you don't get good deep blacks).
MISCELLANEOUS:
  • NICHOLS IMAGING - Photo restoration, home video transfer to DVD (film, VHS, Hi8, Mini DV etc.), and photographic slide shows on DVD (from negatives, slides or printed photos). Free estimates, guaranteed satisfaction!
  • WORKSHOPS IN MONTANA - Taking a workshop at the Photographer's Formulary will change your life.
  • CARL PEARSON IMAGING - 35mm slide, negative, & film scanning. Custom DVD slideshow authoring, VHS to DVD transfer, and more. Satisfaction and complete confidentiality guaranteed.
